Before I even saw the film I had extremely high expectations, not only did Scorsese direct it, but he also casted two of my favourite actors, Leo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, with a small appearance from none other than Matthew Mcconaughey. I was gripped from start to finish, based on a true story, it follows the character of Jordan Belfort who throughout the 80’s and 90’s lived off his fraudulent millions by attending a substantial amount of provocative parties, whilst displaying the need to self indulge in drugs and alcohol. Even though I was aware of the crime in which Jordon Belfort was committing, I still seemed to fall in love with his character, or maybe it was just the teenage girl inside of me pining after Leo.
Another character who equally surprised me, was 23 year old Australian, Margot Robbie. With Wolg of Wall Street being her first major role, Margot seems to play Belfort's trophy wife in an extraordinary way. The film exploits a lot of nudity on Margot's character, Naomi Lapaglia. Some may even argue that they feel the movie exploits women in an unfair, sordid way.
Jonah Hill, who is well known mostly for starring in comedies such as; Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad and 21 Jump Street, I never expected him to be able to fully grasp the role of Donnie Azoff, who was Belfort's second in command. Despite still being the character that you poke fun of, with his quirky hair and preppy style, I was able to see him in a different light, a well respected actor.
