Fashion Week Frenzy

For me, I was extremely impressed with this year's Autumn/Winter collection at Fashion Week, with the mixture of the heritage, well known high end brands such as Mulberry and Burberry, to the up and coming designers such as Fyodor Golan and Palmer Harding.

Here is a little insight into my favourite shows.

Topshop Unique AW 14 collection was by far one of my favourites, which was shown at London's Tate Modern gallery. From the faux sheepskin and faux fur gilets, to the delicious shade of teals and blues, along with the mustard and orange shades.

Another one of my favourites from London was JOSEPH, which has always been one of my favourite designers. JOSEPH has always been at the forefront of fashion, renowned for its sharp tailoring, knitwear, and androgynous whilst feminine, modern edge look.

The first look with the light grey midi skirt, with the oversized turtle neck sweater and the oversized sheepskin coat is by far my favourite look from the whole JOSEPH collection.

Fendi AW 14 showcasing its collection at Milan Fashion Week was another one of my favourites. The collection was made up of thick layers, heavy-duty parkas, stiffened wool, with army jackets and drop waist skirts.

STYLE CRUSH: Lupita Nyong'O

Lupita Nyong’O is a 30 year old actress, who has recently shot to fame from starring in Steve McQueen’s '12 Years a Slave.' However, it isn’t just her acting which has caught my eye, it has been her incredible sense of style which has caught various fashion industry insiders, bloggers, magazines, and the regular fashion obsessed people, like myself, attention. It was the 2014 Golden Globes where I first noticed her incredible style, wearing a beautiful orange/red Ralph Lauren gown, which I felt was extremely elegant and vibrant and really complimented her skin tone. Lupita’s choice for the BAFTAS, was one of my favourite looks as she opted for an emerald green dress from the Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture collection. Every award show or red carpet event, Lupita seems to be the one to watch and who I look forward most to seeing!

& Other Stories

From looking at the contents of my wardrobe, you’d think that with my array of various different coloured clothing, from mint coloured jeans, to paisley print trousers, to reds, blues and pastels, that I pretty go for a fairly out there day to day outfit. Sadly, I have three different black pairs of jeans and half a dozen white and grey t-shirts that practically all resemble each other, and they seem to by wardrobe staple. I absolutely love pastels at the moment, and I do love to wear bright colours and crazy prints, however, I am a slave to my simplistic, neutral clothes. Through living in London and working down Regents Street last Summer, I stumbled across ‘& Other Stories.’ It offers a wide range of clothes, accessories, shoes, bags and beauty, all at affordable prices.

With its simplistic lines and timeless silhouettes, it really shows off its European minimalistic look, with a slightly edgy touch, with extreme attention to detail. From plain white, scoop neck t-shirts, to neon knitted cotton sweaters and silk trousers, I have fallen in love with practically every item of clothing! The in-store experience is far from any other high street retailer you walk in to, there is a cool, simple but edgy, European vibe to it, it is easy to navigate round and there is great customer service. All clothes, bags, shoes, accessories and beauty products are presented perfectly, enticing the customer in.

Wolf of Wall Street

From Inception to The Beach, to Catch Me if You Can and to The Great Gatsby, Leonardo Dicaprio has been one of my all time favourite actors ever since I first saw him play Jack in the ever so heart wrenching Titanic.
Before I even saw the film I had extremely high expectations, not only did Scorsese direct it, but he also casted two of my favourite actors, Leo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, with a small appearance from none other than Matthew Mcconaughey. I was gripped from start to finish, based on a true story, it follows the character of Jordan Belfort who throughout the 80’s and 90’s lived off his fraudulent millions by attending a substantial amount of provocative parties, whilst displaying the need to self indulge in drugs and alcohol. Even though I was aware of the crime in which Jordon Belfort was committing, I still seemed to fall in love with his character, or maybe it was just the teenage girl inside of me pining after Leo.

Another character who equally surprised me, was 23 year old Australian, Margot Robbie. With Wolg of Wall Street being her first major role, Margot seems to play Belfort's trophy wife in an extraordinary way. The film exploits a lot of nudity on Margot's character, Naomi Lapaglia. Some may even argue that they feel the movie exploits women in an unfair, sordid way.

Jonah Hill, who is well known mostly for starring in comedies such as; Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad and 21 Jump Street, I never expected him to be able to fully grasp the role of Donnie Azoff, who was Belfort's second in command. Despite still being the character that you poke fun of, with his quirky hair and preppy style, I was able to see him in a different light, a well respected actor.

Miley Cyrus twerks her way into Marc Jacobs ad campaign

I hate to say it, but I have been a Miley Cyrus fan ever since she graced us with her presence on the Disney Channel’s hit show, Hannah Montana 7 years ago. It was her alter ego and quick one liners that drew the attention of millions of kids and young tweens all over the world and I was one of them. Ever since then, she has reinvented herself, she has ditched the long brown locks and disney princess attitude and opted for a peroxide blonde pixie cut, tight revealing leotards and music videos which showcase her getting drunk, wearing little clothes and promoting her promiscuity. Miley has become a well respected artist in the music industry and has been acknowledged by many of her famous peers, who admire her hard work and determination.

Miley is someone who I love to love and love to hate, I find her extremely irritating, yet I am always intrigued by her controversy. When it became apparent to me that she would be fronting the Spring/Summer '14 Marc Jacobs ad campaign, I was equally surprised, as well as certain that it would be extremely successful. With her edgy, sultry, and somewhat androgynous look, she fits perfectly into the scene in which the photography, David Sims is trying to create. We are all naturally accustomed to seeing Miley promote her body in ways which give parents a reason to forbid their children from watching her videos or live performances, therefore it becomes unusual to see her in a serious toned down way.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2013

Every year around mid November time, my Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Daily Mail Online apps are all bombarded with photos and highlights from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It is every girl’s dream to not only look like the Adriana Lima’s, Candice Swanepoel’s and Behati Prinslo’s of the world, but to be able to look like that in a $10,000,000 diamond encrusted ‘fantasy bra.’ It is a show that exerts fun, playfulness and excitement to our screens with its elaborate themes and displays. There are normally various different segments which showcase different styles and designs, this year there were six themes; British Invasion, Birds of Paradise, Shipwrecked, Pink Network, Parisian Nights and Snow Angels.
As an avid watcher of the show which is broadcasted once a year, I have to say that I was equally impressed with some of the footage and the photos which I had seen this year. However, since Victoria's Secret has graced us with its presence on the fabulous Bond Street in London, and both Westfield shopping centres, for me, the whole hype around the brand has slowly started to disappear. Going to America and having the advantage of being able to visit the stores and buy items from their cheaper range, 'Pink,' was always something I looked forward to, however not so much for my parents. Since being bought over to the UK, the excitement has disappeared and so has their concept of being a fairly reasonably priced brand.

The Beauty of Florence

I have dreamt about visiting Florence, ever since I can remember…which is probably when I was old enough to actually appreciate a great italian pasta dish. For this reason, I jumped at the opportunity to go as part of my university course. At first, I was a little bit hesitant, I had my cultural studies project in that month and if I’m quite honest I wondered whether the trip would benefit me enough to miss out on 5 days of solid work. I can now safely say that it was an extremely beneficial trip, everywhere I seemed to walk, I felt inspired and drawn into every little detail of the city. Ok…. time for some photos..

For one, the architecture is honestly breathtaking and I can honestly say that I have never seen any buildings quite like the ones that I saw in those 4 days. Trying to explain to my family what the best part of the trip was, proved more difficult than I thought, was it the buildings, the fashion, the people or the food, or was it all of it… of course it was all of it, but part of me wanted to scream out ‘THE FOOD!!!!!’ I must have indulged in about 8 different pizza slices bought from about 8 different cafes. I should probably stop talking about food now or I may go into serious detail about each layer of the lasagne I ate at one restaurant.

It was our first proper day exploring, and I remember all 5 of us being VERY hungry, therefore VERY short-tempered and impatient. On our journey to find the perfect place to eat, we ended up walking into a square, which at this point none of us had lifted our heads from our irritable moods that we were in, in order to actually take into account where we were actually standing. After about 5 minutes, each of us at the exact same time lifted our heads and stood in awe at the impeccably breathtaking building that stood in front of our eyes. It seemed we stumbled across 'Il Duomo di Firenze,' formally known to us at 'The Duomo.' Being a massive fan of architecture, I was completely in awe at what I was seeing, I had never seen anything like it before, I rushed to take several photos, knowing that the photos would clearly not do it any justice whatsoever, however I proceeded to do so anyway.

CLAIRE DANES: HOMELAND HEROINE

With the third series of Homeland hitting our screens in the UK, it was perfect timing for British Vogue to bring out the November issue with Claire Danes on the front cover. As an avid watcher of channel 4’s hit series, Homeland, I am extremely familiar with her character of ‘Carrie Mathison,’ who in my opinion plays her bipolar CIA officer character, like no other.
I have a subscription with Vogue, therefore it comes through my letterbox every month, and with the same old excitement, I rushed to take off the packaging and spend my day analysing every page. In all honesty, I was really taken back by the front cover, from watching Homeland, it’s no secret that the character of Carrie Mathison is at all bothered about fashion, as she tends to dress in dull trouser suits, lacking in any colour or imagination whatsoever. Therefore, seeing her wearing a Louis Vuitton tweed coat and sweater dress, both in blue, really complimenting her eye colour and stunning complexion, I was seriously impressed and taken back by the beauty of the photograph.

The First Report

The idea of blogging has always been of great interest to me, however it has been finding the time which has been what has stopped me to blog about the things I love and the things that inspire me. I recently started a tumblr page, http://ellieeharris.tumblr.com/ where I simply stalk through other people’s blogs and re-blog any inspiring images, whether it’s related to fashion, hair, beauty, and even landscapes. I am starting this blog as part of my university course, and I am hoping it will turn into some sort of diary, where I get to share my thoughts and post various different things that show off my interests, my likes and my dislikes. Hopefully this blog will give you all a little incite into what goes through my mind.. and I hope I don’t disappoint!
